Dolce Vita on the Cheap

I thought about trekking up to the new East Harlem Target to score some shoes from the Dolce Vita line "exclusively" to that location, for about 3 minutes. Considering I can walk to the Brooklyn one, I figured I'd just wait until August when they come out everywhere. Well, now we don't have to wait. The shoes are already available online. As soon as I get paid Wednesday, I'm getting the silver flats above and the boots below. What do you think of the line? Are you buying any of it?

Madonna for Forever 21, I mean, Macy's

There are a few things wrong with Madonna's Material Girl line for Macy's.
1. Isn't M supposed to be ahead of the curve? Why does this look so Forever 21?
2. The lace biker shorts. Shudder.
3. Little J is the face of the line.

The postive?
1. Lola is blogging. (Why isn't she the face?)
2. The cowboy shirt and the bags are pretty cute. So are the pants.
3. Everything is under $40 for when it goes out of style next week.

Will you guys be buying clothes from Material Girl? I think it will pretty well. It has to be better than her H&M line. Silk jumpsuits in the clearance rack, anyone?

The Perfect Denim Shirt for Every Body

The denim shirt is a huge trend for Spring but it can be tough to get right. Here are 3 ways for 3 different body types.

Button up this lightweight top and tuck it into high waisted jeans of a COMPLETELY different wash. Another idea? Wear it loose over a black body-con mini with ballet flats. Add pretty jewelry to keep it from being too cowgirl.

This one works because of the thicker material which hugs and accentuates curves without getting them lost. Wear in place of a cardigan over a floral dress or tucked into a girly voluminous mini.

This longer, more structured shirt, will look amazing on plus sized girls with leggings or skinny black pants. Belt the waist to create an even more gorgeous hour glass silhouette.

Back to Brooklyn

I had a great time with my mom and grandma this week in St. Louis. That's why I've been a bit MIA. It felt really good to get out of the city and lay around watching all of season 3 of Friday Night Lights (Ah.Ma.Zing) and go suburban shopping. I got exciting deals at Kohl's (I have a Simply Vera obsession: see above dress) and all the thrift stores. My mom knows about some seriously awesome spots.

My grandma thinks I'm a little crazy but she loves me :)

My mom is wearing her Mother's Day present from yours truly with a really cool handmade ring that she bought both of us.

This sweet little creature and her sister caused me to take a whole box of Benedryl. I was drugged the whole trip! Stupid allergies. But I love animals.

Did you do anything over the holiday weekend? Staycation or did you get out of town?

Not So Basic Basics: Help!

I decided that my wardrobe has zero basics so I went to H&M for some tanks, black pants, etc., and this is what I came home with. OK, not exactly basic but cute, right? The t-shirt was less than $10 and I think the pants were $30 (and 25% goes to Fashion Fights Aids.) The pants are definitely harem pants-y but not too much and they are gauzy and super comfy. The question is, what shoes? These black ones will probably look the best but I'm feeling lazy and I want to wear my gold Toms. Or I guess I could wear black gladiator sandals? What do you think? I need your opinion!

Mother's Day 2010

I love buying presents and finally found something cool for my mom.

She's hard because she's stylish but not overly trendy. She's a beauty person, so I usually buy something special and different from Sephora. I'm kind of bored with that so I found this cool Dogeared bracelet online. I LOVE the colors and it's made from recycled saris! So awesome. On top of that, it's $36!

Do you like it? What are you getting the women in your life?

Sold :(

I need a dress for a party this weekend but since I'm broke I'm going to hit up Beacon's Closet. I love the Williamsburg location. (There's also one in Park Slope.) You can shop online now! The best part to me is grabbing a million things and trying everything on, especially since there's a lot of vintage and you never know how it fits. One of my favorite finds is this cool 90s Betsey Johnson pink dress with heels all over it for $20. What's your favorite thrift store?

Sunday Shopping

I still can't upload photos and I don't know why! It's driving me crazy. I took pictures of my Target finds today but you'll just have to imagine them. :( The Zac Posen line came out in stores today and although I didn't want EVERYTHING like I thought I would, I still think it's one of the better of the designer lines. I'm still frustrated with the fit (seriously, why is the boob part SO SMALL??) but the fabrics don't seem as cheap as others. I ended up buying this dress which is really cute on and I'm happy I bought it because it's so different for me, i.e. not floral or ruffled. It's denim-ish and we know how I feel about denim! (Not a fan.) I also got this dress. I'm really digging the on-trend print and the $18 price tag!

Topshop is also having a serious sale if you can get there. I got a really different navy dress (which I will post a pic of when I can) and a pink crochet sweatshirt (the only sweatshirt I currently have is Alice in Wonderland.) I only spent $30!

Did you find any great shopping this weekend? Tell me what you got!

Why Pay Retail?

I'm totally obsessed with Rent the Runway. If you don't know what it is, it's a website where you can rent an outfit for 4 days. We try so hard to find the right dress to wear to an event, spend $$$$$, and never wear it again (or force ourselves to wear it once more.) With RTR you can pick something special and they will deliver it to you-same day if you're in NYC! The most awesome part? They send you ANOTHER size with it just in case! They are great at explaining the fit of things ("narrow in the hips so go a size up if you're curvy") and you can even shop by occasion and body type. There's also an "Ask a Stylist" feature. After you sign up, they send you an invite a little while later so sign up soon so you'll be ready for your next big night! Now I just need someone to invite me somewhere...

This Tracey Reese jumpsuit would look amazing with serious heels and jewelry for an easy day to night transition.
Rent: $50 Retails for: $250

I don't know how great this Tibi dress is for my body type but it's beautiful.
Rent: $50 Retails for: $378

The back of this beaded Haute Hippie dress is the showstopper.
Rent: $100 Retails for: $695

A perfect summer wedding dress from Catherine Malandrino.
Rent: $75 Retails for: $495

There are also lots of accessories to compliment the clothes but I'm not a big jewelry girl and tend to throw on whatever is around. What do you guys think? Would you rent a dress?

You're Invited!!

Who's coming with me? I'm SO excited. With DJs, prizes, and the best Target designer collection yet, the Zac Posen event is sure to be a major success. And so fun! I want one of everything. Drool over the pics and I'll see you at 11!
