Lynching Designer Diane von Furstenberg

The first victim in GeniusLynch is Diane von Furstenberg, a well-known experienced designer, who first arrived in the fashion world in 1972. Diane is also the President of the Council of fashion Designers of America, so she is the real trendsetter in fashion. Her motto is “feel like a woman, wear a dress”. Look at the photos below. All these dresses were created by this designer. Maybe I am wrong, but let me express my sincere opinion about her dresses.

Abrigo dress is extremely fashionable! I think, every woman MUST have one at her wardrobe… in case she needs a rag to mop the floor.

Volante

Annie is very sparse. She has washed her new “Volante” dress in a washing machine… together with her red lipstick. The cuffs are really weird and “grandma’s”. But I’ve got to hand it to Diane, this item is the only one that could be called a “valid dress” from here.

It seems to me, that the purpose of these dresses are to make women wearing them as much unattractive as possible. There is nothing personal, I just think, that every designer has both good and bad works, so does Diane von Furstenberg. We will come back to this designer and her good works some time again in category Fashion. I am happy, that Diane has much more good works than poor ones and that the second ones are only enough for one post.

Selfridge for Gossip Girl Collection

British label Miss Selfridge teamed up with Gossip Girl creators to make a unique collection of eight dresses, each inspired by the personality of the series’ lead characters. Gossip Girl costume designer is Eric Daman.

Yasmin Yusuf, creative director of Miss Selfridge, expressed his delight at collaborating with Warner Bros as the dresses from the collection fit perfectly with Miss Selfridge’s spring/summer 2010 range. He said, “Our customers love the show and the styles of the girls, so the partnership is a perfect match.”

Whether you are a socialite like Blair, or a party girl like Serena, or a rocker type like Jenny or your heart with Vanessa’s vintage style, the collection has anything you are looking for.

Latest Fashion Fabric Trend Suede

Following on from last week when we featured a big velvet fabric trend for the party season, we are showcasing

another fabric that has really made an impact this Autumn/Winter – suede. Suede has always been massively popular in shoes, bags and accessories but for the first time this season it is starting to become increasingly popular within women’s clothing as well.

We have seen some great new dresses, trousers, and tops in suede which add a real twist to your look. Leather is THE big trend this year in fabrics, but suede gives off a much softer feel to your outfits whilst still having that fashion forward edge. You can see from the main images above that Hollywood’s A-list and fashionista’s the world over are bringing back this beautiful fabric for Winter. Some great looks for daytime casual and nighttime chic, which shows how versatile this can be when you have it in your wardrobe.

The prominence of extravagant fabrics like velvet and suede this season has led to some amazing new techniques when it comes to layering items. Textured layering is so big right now, and mixing different fabrics like these always creates an interesting look if you pull it off. It gives your outfits that extra dimension and has been the main reason that detailing (studs, sequins, feathers etc.) has been so massive this year in women’s fashion.

Cue a nod to D&G’s pirate shirt, in slightly more wearable proportions, teamed with a long line waistcoat and black trousers, making it smart enough for the office, and sexy enough to go straight out to drinks in.

Rihanna was presented with her Woman of the Year award by Iman, and before the supermodel had barely uttered the pop idol’s name, the crowd of very young fans in the balcony of Carnegie Hall went wild. Rihanna came out to accept her award not from her seat, like most of the other honorees, but from backstage. “I was worried about getting up the stairs in this,” she said of her customarily over-the-top gown by Stephane Rolland. “As usual, I decided to wear the tightest dress I could find!”

Honoree Stella McCartney had her own fashion issues to contend with. When she made her way up to the stage (where Yoko Ono, Olivia Harrison, and Barbara Starkey–AKA the Beatles wives–gave her one of the evening’s best surprises), she covered her bum with the teeny tiny dress she designed herself and warned the audience, “Never wear a skirt this short!”

One of my favorite red carpet looks of the evening came from Marissa Mayer, vice president of search and experience at Google. She proves you can be a tech geek and a fashionista in this Oscar de la Renta skirt and top. She’s been a couture collector and a serious style force for as long as she’s been a major player in the technology field. Presenter Matt Lauer affectionately called her “the extremely accomplished hot chick from Google.”

Whatever Catherine Zeta Jones has been sprinkling on top of her Wheaties in the morning, WE WANT SOME! The A-list actress has never looked better–and although you can’t see them under her floor-sweeping Gustavo Cadile hemline, she had on a pair of bright cherry-red stilettos that took her look from gorgeous to positively perfect.

Fashion Trends for the Autumm-winter season

For the next autumn winter seasons 2009 -2010, Marc Jacobs will play its safety and will focus on the boots. However, within his collection of shoes, some lines will be for younger man, and there will be also very colorful and bold trends.

The use of platforms, will be ideal for men who want to increaseheight a few inches.

Surely the platforms are not a very popular choice among the majority, but for those who are willing to be different to others, will be a very good idea.

He also called attention to some leopard prints and with other brigther textures. In addition to these options for the more adventurous, a line of classic shoes, can also be a good choice for more conservatives.

From tailored trousers to skinny cigarette pants, to ripped jeans and leather leggings; over the past years pants have predominantly been worn in block colours. What’s more, they’d become something of a basic: frequently worn as a subtle item, while attention was focussed on increasingly-detailed tops, jackets, dresses, and skirts.

In 2010, pants are getting their own back.

As one of the Spring 2010 fashion trends printed and patterned pants are bringing us a whole range of new wardrobe options.

Patterned pants: styles and prints

Stripes, florals, graphic prints and abstract shapes. Bright and bold, or subtle and sophisticated. Almost anything goes when it comes to trouser prints in 2010.

And cuts? Again, the choice is yours. Skinny like Balenciaga or free flowing like Roberto Cavalli are both strong styles. Some takes, like those from DKNY and Etro, are so relaxed they fall more under the category of loungewear (further blurring the line between underwear and outerwear). But the style we expect to see more of on the streets – at least more immediately – is a toned-down take on the harem pant, relaxed at the hips and tapered in to the ankles.

Avoid: boot-cuts and flares; fabrics that are too heavy. Lighter fabrics work best for Spring.

How to wear printed pants

• Don’t be afraid to mix patterns. Clashing prints can give a sense of careless charm. Just don’t overdo it or you’ll risk looking clown-like.
• Bold prints will draw attention to your lower-half, so if it’s not the best part of your figure avoid skinny cuts and try for relaxed fits instead
• If going for a loose fit pant, pair with either a fitted top; or a baggier top that’s part tucked in, part untucked for a nonchalant look.
• The right pair of relaxed pants is perfect for a 1940s loungewear look. Add soft waves, red lips, and chunky cocktail rings.
• For a young, urban look try 80’s inspired graphic prints like those at Topshop Unique. As an investment however, bear in mind that this style will be more short-lived.
• If sophistication is more your goal, look for tailored, high-waisted styles like those seen at Matthew Williamson and Luella. Wear them with a sharp pair of heels.

Men’s Fashion Trends

The 1980s fashion revival is coming to a close. But the revival on earlier periods, particularly from the 1930s and 1940s, remains popular. So what to do then with the military fashiontrend which has proved the stalwart of fashionisers’ wardrobes for the past 2 years? Evolve it. Play down the over-the-top glam pieces taken directly from the 80s, and infuse the historical military look with something far more classic, far more relevant to 2010 fashion. Introducing theAutumn (Fall) / Winter 2010 evolution of the men’s military clothing trend.

For King and Country

The men’s military fashion trend is nothing new to us. Revived in 2008/2009 as part of a larger 1980s revival it had, to date, the flamboyant style popularised by the likes of Adam Ant. Not so for Autumn (Fall) / 2010. Ant, in turn, had taken his inspiration from a time when the European superpowers were at their peak, and military uniforms were less about functionality and more about how grand your country was.

The 1980s fashion revival is, however, on the wane. A new decade calls for a new swatch, and the focus on subtlety and quality that I hope will shape the next decade of men’s fashion will see the men’s military trend evolve in 2010 to be far more articulate.

So if the inspiration no longer comes from the 1980s, then when? The Second World War. An era of rationing, clean cuts, functionality, and, of course, the dapper gentleman off to fight for King and Country.

Key Pieces

If you intend to indulge in the 2010 / 2011 interpretation of the men’s military fashion trend there are two key pieces you’ll need:

1. A greatcoat. Colour choices here sit strongest with Army green and Navy / Air Force navy hues. The greatcoat can be single or double-breasted, and should be detailed with brass buttons. For genuine authenticity, find some antique buttons on eBay and pull out a needle and thread, or simply purchase a vintage piece and have the cut altered accordingly. Further, the greatcoat can be belted or unbelted: it needs only to have a fitted waist.
2. Aviator boots with shearling

It’s worth nothing that shearling can also be applied to the collar of a greatcoat or an aviator jacket, particularly if you’re trending towards the fighter ace look. Be cautious about moving into the realm of costuming however: being on trend doesn’t translate to looking like you’re off to a fancy dress party dressed as the Red Baron.

Colour Clothing

Moschino Collection for Fall/Winter 2010-2011

At the Milan Fashion Week, Moschino unveiled its line for fall/winter season 2010-2011. Models were sporting dark cowboy hats and a number of large golden accessories. Rosella Jardini’s collection was characterized by the use of quite classic colors and cuts.
Major colors were black and gray with addition of golden used for edges and accessories. Another highlight was lots of leather clothing – skirts, jackets, and trench coats. The show also featured leopard prints used for dresses, suits and trench coats.
Evening gowns looked more edgy and brighter, ranging from lightweight black fabrics to bold shades of orange and pink.

Selena Gomez Makes Waves in Spain

Just two days after her win at the Nickelodeon KCA's, Selena Gomez is in the Spanish capital to promote her new album, "Kiss & Tell."

At the Disney Channel studios, the young singer met with the press, posed and blew kisses to the crowd.

Not one to be out of season, Gomez paired a sheer, paneled spring top with butterfly sleeves with skinny jeans and matching purple heels. The top perfectly set off her flawless skin while the jeans ensured every pair of eyes would be on her.
