Emma Watson confirms she is transferring from Brown University... but denies it's because of 'bullying'

By Daily Mail Reporter

I'm outta here: Emma Watson, seen today at Heathrow Airport, has confirmed she is transferring from Brown University

Emma Watson has confirmed she will be transferring from Brown University to another school this autumn.

The Harry Potter star's announcement comes just days after it was claimed the reason she put her studies on hold at the university was because she was taunted by her peers in class.

Watson's representative Vanessa Davies said the actress – who has a fortune estimated at £10million – had decided to pursue a course not offered at Brown, and had 'absolutely loved' her time at the institution.

Davies also denied reports that Watson had been picked on at the Ivy League institution by fellow students.

Miss Watson is said to have been the subject of frequent jibes whenever she answered questions in lectures.

A source told the New York Daily News: ‘They would respond with a quote from Harry Potter. The most popular choice was, “Three points for Gryffindor!”’

Gryffindor is one of the competing houses at Hogwarts, the franchise’s school of wizardry. Miss Watson’s peers at the university in Rhode Island also shouted phrases from the film at her as she watched an American football game, it is alleged.

Miss Watson, who was studying European women’s history and drama, has admitted being ‘scared’ that she wouldn’t fit in when she arrived at the university in September 2009.

She said of her peers: ‘I was afraid they’d think, “You’re famous. You’re given free handbags. Why should you deserve to be normal?”’

Watson's peers also shouted phrases from the film at her as she watched an American football game, the newspaper reported.

Last month Watson, 21, announced she was putting her studies at the Providence, Rhode Island institution on hold.

'I will still be working towards my degree... it's just going to take me a semester or two longer than I thought,' she wrote on her website.

Taunts: Watson, pictured here at Brown University last year, has been the subject of teasing by her fellow students, it has been claimed

'As you know, I love Brown and I love studying pretty much more than anything but recently I've had so much to juggle that being a student AND fulfilling my other commitments has become a little impossible.'

Watson is now busy working on a number of fashion projects before she turns her attention to the promotion trail when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is released in July.

Brown University is one of the top colleges in the United States, boasting alumni including former presidents, diplomats, royalty and a heavy sprinkling of celebrities' offspring.

Determined to fit in: The actress, pictured here during her first semester at the school in 2009, wanted to be treated like any other student

Goodbye: Emma said she is leaving because she wants to take a course not offered at Brown

It was number 1 for America's 'Happiest College Students', according to the Princeton Review 2010 rankings.

It has also been named 'the most fashionable school in the Ivy League' by the fashion trade journal Women's Wear Daily.

Watson achieved straight As in her A-levels before landing a place at the university.

Slow down Emma, you’re only 21!

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Not so magic: Emma Watson, who turned 21 today, looked a bit old before her time in her birthday message to her fans on her official website

She might have millions in the bank and a bright future ahead of her - but fashionista Emma Watson missed the sartorial mark when she sent a birthday video message to her fans today to celebrate her 21st.

The Harry Potter star looked somewhat frumpy and dowdy with a rather bouffanty version of her short crop that looked a bit too middle-aged for her elfin features.

Her overall look wasn't helped by a rather nondescript black v-necked top and necklace in the arty-looking black and white clip.

Fashionista: Emma also confirmed her role today as an 'ambassadress' for French beauty brand Lancome

Posting on her official website, Emma also revealed that she had just been named as a new face of make-up brand Lancome.

She said: 'Just a quick message to say thank you for all the Birthday wishes and gifts you’ve sent. I’m continually overwhelmed by the support from you all. It means so much to me, so thank you very much.

'Turning 21 is a significant occasion for everyone, and it’s proved to be quite a milestone...this year I plan to continue pursuing my love of fashion, working as an ambassadress for Lancôme.'

Usual style: The glam Harry Potter actress as she usually looks at the Elle Style Awards in February

In her video meanwhile, Emma revealed she had also been hard at work learning an American accent for her forthcoming new movie Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

She gushed: 'You guys are absolutely amazing. So yeah, it's turning out to be quite a big year in a way and I just want to say so much for all of your continuing support.

'You've been absolutely amazing and a real comfort and I'm very grateful to you all. Yeah, I'm 21! Crazy, crazy! Thank you so much!'

In a press announcement released yesterday, French beauty house Lancome said: 'Thanks to her charm, romanticism and her incredible modernity, Emma Watson has become the icon of her generation.

'We are delighted by this new collaboration.'

Emma follows in the footsteps of other renowned actresses, such as Julia Roberts, Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Anne Hathaway, who have also starred in campaigns for the brand.

Meanwhile, Emma has also spoken about the forthcoming Royal Wedding, saying she feels sorry for Kate Middleton.

She claims she understands the amount of 'pressure' that Prince William's bride-to-be is under, having just taken a year out of her study at the prestigious Brown University on Rhode Island due to the stress she was under trying to juggle public and private life.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Watson says she sympathises with Middleton's hectic build up to the wedding, saying, 'Poor girl. That must be an incredible amount of pressure. I hope she's enjoying it. Must be intense.'

Kate is set to marry Prince William on April 29.

Emma Watson is currently also busy with promotional duties for the final two Harry Potter movies. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is released on DVD in the U.S. today.

Emma Watson is just peachy as she mixes biker chick chic with soft chiffon for romantic Lancôme night shoot in Paris

By Georgina Littlejohn

Lady in leather: Emma Watson strolls through the streets of Paris as she films a new ad campaign for French cosmetics firm Lancome

She has only just announced that she is the new face of French cosmetics brand Lancôme.

But already she has been put to work for its new campaign with a romantic photo shoot on the dark cobbled streets of Paris.

The Harry Potter star was seen filming an advert for the make-up brand in the French capital yesterday evening, just a day after announcing that it had signed her up.

And joining her on the night shoot was world-famous photographer Mario Testino, who has snapped a number of famous beauties for Lancôme.

The 20-year-old actress looking stunning in a strapless peach chiffon dress, which she teamed with a black biker jacket and towering peep-toed shoe boots.

Her short hair was slicked back and her nails were painted black to match her jacket and her footwear.

On my cue: Emma looked a bit cold in her pretty strapless chiffon dress as she waited to be directed, before she skipped off down the street

And she managed to mix sweet with sexy as she strolled through the romantically-lit streets for the new ad campaign.

It is unclear whether the campaign was for the brand's make-up or perfume, but with a huge legion of fans, whatever the product, it is bound to fly off the shelves when released.

Emma has worked with Testino, 56, before on fashion shoots for Burberry and Vogue, so she looked comfortable in the presence of the critically-acclaimed photographer.

Emma, who has previously fronted campaigns for Burberry, has been leaving cryptic clues for her fans that she had been signed by Lancôme on her Twitter page all week.

Last Friday she first tweeted: 'A new venture is starting - what can it be? Follow my clues and you will see...'

This was followed with: 'I'll pierce your skin if you hold me wrong but I'll love you forever if you pass me on,' which referred to Lancôme's logo - a rose.

She then alluded to the accent above the 'o' in the cosmetic brand's name and wrote: 'It's a beauty house that wears a hat. French? Very, but this is no beret.'

Then all was finally revealed yesterday when she declared: 'It starts with an L and ends with an E. I’m sure you have guessed the new face of Lancôme is me! :-).'

In a statement released today, company president Youcef Nabi said: 'Thanks to her charm, romanticism and her incredible modernity, Emma Watson has become the icon of her generation.

'We are delighted by this new collaboration with Emma who brings a fresh spirit to Lancôme.'

Emma Watson announces she is taking time off from university to focus on acting and fashion

By ANDREA MAGRATH

Skipping class: Emma Watson, pictured arriving at Heathrow last week, has announced she is taking time off from Brown university

She became a household name playing extraordinarily intelligent bookworm Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise.

But Emma Watson has made a decision that her alter ego would certainly not approve of - she is postponing her studies at Brown university to focus on her career.

The 20-year-old star made the announcement on her website today, telling fans that juggling the two has become 'a little impossible'.

Too much to handle: Emma said in a statement on her website that juggling her classes at Brown, in Rhode Island, and other projects became 'a little impossible'

She wrote: 'I've decided to take a bit of time off to completely finish my work on Harry Potter (the last one comes out this summer) and to focus on my other professional and acting projects.

'I will still be working towards my degree... it’s just going to take me a semester or two longer than I thought.

'As you know, I love Brown and I love studying pretty much more than anything but recently I've had so much to juggle that being a student AND fulfilling my other commitments has become a little impossible.'

Swapping classes for the cameras: The 20-year-old will be busy promoting the final Harry Potter film over the summer

Emma jetted back into Heathrow from the U.S. last week, and was also in London throughout the BAFTA party season last month.

Brown university is currently in the middle of their semester, which runs from January 26 to May 29, with a spring recess later this month.

Emma's London spokesperson declined to elaborate on whether the actress has already pulled out of classes or if the break will commence after this semester wraps up.
However judging by her current jetsetting, the former is more likely.

Fashion career: Emma recently released her most recent People Tree collection, and she just announced a collaboration with designer Alberta Ferretti

Emma is busy working on a number of fashion projects before she turns her attention to the Harry Potter promotion trail in the summer.

Last week she announced a new collaboration with designer Alberta Ferretti.

The line, called Pure Threads by Emma Watson Alberta Ferretti, is eco-friendly, like her People Tree collections.

The Italian designer revealed why she chose the gamine star to join forces with. 'She’s an actress I’ve followed since her early days,' she told Women's Wear Daily.

Studious: The actress became a household name playing bookworm Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series

'I like her freshness, her spontaneity and simplicity.'

Miss Watson added: 'I believe this is a big step forward for all of the international fashion industry, but also an important step for an increased sensitivity to the problem of ecology.'

Emma Watson launches her final collection for People Tree by squeezing into some fairtrade denim hotpants

By JESSICA SATHERLEY

Ethical fashion: Emma models her third and final collection for fairtrade label People Tree, which hits stores on February 28 to coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight

Style icon Emma Watson has continued to take a stand for ethical fashion by slipping on some fairtrade denim hotpants to launch her third and final collection with People Tree.

The Harry Potter actress has been vocal about her stance on fairtrade clothing for years, which she exhibits by modelling her latest spring/summer collection for the brand.

The 20-year-old not only models and designs for the company, but she also travelled to Bangladesh to see the collection being made by the locals.

Emma said: ‘The design process continued with me trying on each and every piece to get the fits just as I wanted them, and then I visited Bangladesh to see the clothing actually being made and meet the people making it.

‘It was an incredible and life-changing experience. I wish everyone had the chance to see the difference Fairtrade makes.’

Watson’s full spring/summer collaboration with People Tree is being launched to coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight, which starts February 28.

In the photoshoot Emma teamed up her ethical Daisy Dukes with a beige cotton waistcoat and scarf as she posed in a summer field.

Creative input: The 20-year-old not only models and designs for the company, but she also travelled to Bangladesh to see the collection being made by the locals

Speaking out: Emma says of her trip: 'It was an incredible and life-changing experience. I wish everyone had the chance to see the difference Fairtrade makes'

The collection also boasts her long-sleeved mini-dress, which she showed off next to an old fashioned motorbike.

And Emma also showed off her dresses for the brand, with the range that includes fabrics printed with checks, polka dots and floral designs.

She designed the collection last year while attending university and said: ‘People Tree’s founder, and Misato, People Tree’s designer, came out to work with me in Rhode Island.

Lounging around: Emma posed with her fellow models in the photoshoot for People Tree, after having helped design the collection with the label

‘Together we decided on all the colours, fabrics, shapes and craft skills. Most of all, we took care to design a really wearable collection that truly celebrates the traditional skills of People Tree’s Fairtrade groups around the world.’

Fairtrade Fortnight runs from February 28 to March 13 and was created by the Fairtrade Foundation to invite designers to produce scarves using fairtrade cotton.

Designers who have joined the Collective include Marios Schwab and Hussein Chalayan for Puma, Julie Verhoeven, Tim Soar, David David and Ada Zanditon.

Punk inspired: Emma said she wanted to make the collection very 'wearable' as well as being ethically friendly, so designed a range of dresses while attending university
