Colored Diamonds

Naturally fancy colored diamonds are the most valuable gemstones on the planet as determined on a price per carat basis. Exceptionally fine colored diamonds have no fixed price - and as with fine paintings, set rules do not apply. Their true value will be determined when they are sold at auction.

Red Diamond

Investing in Red colored diamonds is a long-term investment. The economic cycles of the past 15 years has seen colored diamonds reach new heights in value as price records were broken. For the die-heart romantics, nothing says undying love like a heart diamond pendant.

Yellow Diamond

Twenty years ago a one carat Fancy Intense Internally Flawless Yellow Diamond would have sold for approximately $70,000.00 a carat, today that same diamond would be worth $500,000.00. In fact, on November 1995 at Sotheby's Auction House in Geneva a 7.37 carat Fancy Intense Purplish Yellow Diamond sold for $819,201 a carat. The highest price ever paid per carat for a colored diamond was $1.3 million per carat. It was a 3.73 carat Fancy Vivid Yellow sold at Christies Auction House on May 16, 2008 for $4.95 million.

Green Diamond

The most common diamond pendant style you will come across is the solitaire. This consists of a single brilliant in an oval, round or pear cut. You will have to check the carats and the Green color of the diamond to assess the price of the piece.

Orange Diamond

Another Orange Diamond setting that is a smash hit among women is the three stone pendants. As the name suggests, this piece has three stones arranged in a pyramid or occasionally in a vertical stack. The cut can be of any type, but the round cut is most preferred.
This consists of a number of diamonds arranged in a heart shape. You could also gift a crucifix or other faith symbols for a dear one who has strong religious sentiments.Another variety that makes for an excellent gift with a personal touch is the letter pendant. This consists of letters and can be chosen according to the initials of the intended receiver. As mentioned before, you can gift diamond pendants to men as well. For male gifts, the styles are usually more masculine and contemporary. Bold, chunky designs dominate the array

Florentine Diamond

Florentine diamond is also known as the Great Florentine Diamond as it is one of the largest diamonds on the face of the earth. This diamond has other names like, Tuscan, the Tuscany Diamond, the grand Duke of Tuscany, the Austrian Diamond and the Austrian Yellow Diamond. The famous Florentine Medici family was the proud owner of the Florentine diamond once. It was also in the possession of Charles the Bold who was the Duke of Burgundy.

The history of this diamond is somewhat controversial. Many accounts and stories are present regarding the history of the Florentine Diamond. One version of the disputed history is that Charles the Bold had lost this precious jewel in the battle of Morat in 1476. The story goes that a Swiss mercenary found the diamond and sold it to a priest thinking that it was a piece of glass. The priest sold the gem to the Berne authority from whom a wealthy merchant purchased it for 5,000 florins. Finally through various ways the diamond adorned the Medici exchequer. Others believe that the Florentine diamond is of Indian origin.

They believe that it belonged to the great Vijayanagar Empire of southern India and was later acquired by the Portuguese governor of Goa. It came in the possession of the Portuguese Castro-Noranha family and they sold it to Ferdinando I de' Medici for 35,000 Portuguese scudi crocati. The true history of the Florentine Diamond is documented by Tavernier.

According to him after the fall of the Medici, the diamond made its way to Vienna and was positioned in the Hapsburg Crown Jewels in Hofbrug. The value of the Florentine diamond then was $750,000 or 2,608,335 livres.
The specifications of the Florentine diamond are given in details in the historical account of Tavernier. The weight of the diamond was about 139 ½ carats according to Tavernier but it is also believed that it was of 137.27 carats. The gem had a yellowish tint and was cut on 9 sides in the shape of a shield. All the sides possessed an irregular 126 facet double rose cut.

Allnatt Diamond

Allnatt Diamond is a 101.29 carat vivid yellow cushion-shaped diamond that is distinguished as one of the most striking gemstones in the world. The name of the diamond duplicates the name of its owner, Major Alfred Ernest Allnatt, a soldier who was a known sportsman, art patron and benefactor.

The origin of the Allnatt Diamond is still under clouds; probable information that is popular is that the stone was excavated from the Premier Diamond Mine of South Africa. There is abundant evidence that the premature years of the South African diamond mining industry witnessed the emergence of large yellow crystals that were octahedral in shape. Major Alfred Ernest Allnatt was well-known as a warrior, a sportsman, and a dynamic patron of the arts and a noted benefactor in many spheres. He is believed to have purchased this very fine diamond in the early-1950s.

Allnatt Diamond has Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certified Color rating as Fancy Vivid yellow and Clarity Grade as VS2, and weighs 101.29 carats. The yellow color of the gem is the consequence of nitrogen atoms that replace some of the carbon atoms in the crystal network.
The magnificent diamond comprises a wealthy attitude since the past. The Allnatt diamond was auctioned at an auction ceremony that was held by the Christies in Geneva in 1996. The highest price of the diamond was declared as $3,043,496. The splendid piece of gemstone covers a probable price of at least USD 3 million. The diamond is currently owned by SIBA Corp.

Ocean Dream diamond

Found in the Central Africa, the Ocean Dream diamond is a magnificent stone weighing around 5.51 carats. The Diamond color of this gem is so unusual that many gemologists thought that it was synthetically colored in the laboratory. Till date, no diamond has been found of this color and shape.

The facts given by the Gemological Institute of America, the unique color of this famous Ocean Dream diamond was formed due to the flaws in the atomic structure of the stone. The gem’s blue- green exotic color combination was the result of the earth’s radiation making defects in the stone’s atomic structure and giving rise to this color.

This amazing diamond was exposed to radiation for many years and this ultimately resulted in the unusual fancy hue. Scientific investigations have revealed that that this type of color and size is rarest among the rare diamonds. In the year 2003, the rare Ocean Dream diamond had been displayed in the collections of the “The Splendor of Diamonds" held in the Smithsonian Museum, Washington.

This precious stone was placed with the other magnificent unique diamonds of the world like De Beers Millennium Star, Moussaieff Red, and The Heart of Eternity. The exhibition was organized by the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, the Steinmetz group and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). It was an effort of bringing down the most valuable and precious gems of the world. The Ocean Dream diamond along with the other diamonds looked like constellation of stars.
