Staying power! The secret to Cheryl Cole's mega bouffant

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Stylish: Cheryl Cole seen in a new advertisement for L'Oreal Elnett hairspray, sporting a series of looks

If there was any doubt as to how Cheryl Cole is managing to control her impressive mane right now, then look no further.

The 27-year-old X Factor judge is seen here in her latest L'Oreal Paris ad, promoting the brand's Elnett Hairspray, which is celebrating its 50th birthday.

The Girls Aloud singer turns up the volume, wearing her locks in a number of hair-raising styles for the campaign.

Easy style: The famous hairspray is celebrating its 50th birthday

In one frame, the brunette's hair has been fashioned in to a short, tousled bob with plenty of spring.

Then, in another pose, the singer lounges on a sofa with her locks styled into a bouffant.

Cheryl arrived for the first day of the U.S. X Factor taped auditions in Los Angeles yesterday, admitting to MailOnline that her hair looked 'crazy'.

Turning up the volume: The Girls Aloud singer and U.S. X Factor judge is currently in America filming the show

And there was no doubt that Cole had used tons of the strong hold spray to keep her barnet in check.

As the pop star stepped out of her car, the smell of lacca filled the air as she posed in front of the waiting media.

She joined fellow judges LA Reid, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.

Slick: Seen here posing in a sequinned jacket and trousers, sat on top of a loud speaker

Cheryl exhibits three different styles for the advertisement - the 'rock it', the 'glam it' and the 'work it'.

Cole was signed as the face of L'Oreal in 2009 and fronted a couple of campaigns including one for Elvive shampoo and Glam Shine lipgloss.

Yesterday Cowell confirmed to MailOnline that Cheryl will no longer be taking part in the British X Factor.

He has also relinquished his judging duties on the UK version, but said he will still perform some role on the show.

Gary Barlow is the only confirmed judge for the British programme, with Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh still not confirmed to return.

'I've fallen in love with Cheryl Cole': Selena Gomez is X Factor judge's biggest fan

By Daily Mail Reporter

I love Cheryl Cole! Selena Gomez on stage in Dixon, California on the first night of her new tour

She's almost an unknown in the U.S., but Cheryl Cole has one unlikely fan.

Selena Gomez gave the newly announced X Factor judge's American dream a boost last night when she performed one of her songs during a gig.

The Disney starlet, who is dating Justin Bieber, declared she had fallen in love with Cole, before singing a cover version of her hit Parachute to a packed crowd of young fans.

Introducing the track, she said: 'When I was in London last year, I fell in love with a British artist. She is so cool - her name is Cheryl Cole.

'This song that I'm going to perform for you guys, you might not know, but I feel like the lyrics are very beautiful. This song is called "Parachute".'

Gomez, 18, paid tribute to Cole during her concert at Dixon County Fair in California on Saturday night.

Big fan: Selena performs Cheryl's song Parachutes

Her cover of Parachute - the British singer's third solo single - came just 24 hours after Cole was confirmed as a judge on the U.S. version of X Factor.

The Girls Aloud star, who is relatively unknown in the United States, will appear on the show alongside Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and a fourth judge who has not yet been named.

The singing contest will be presented by Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and British TV personality Steve Jones.

Inspiration: New X Factor judge Cheryl Cole has found a fan in Selena Gomez

Cole was not the only British singer Gomez honoured during her Dixon County Fair gig.

The Wizards of Waverly Place star also performed a cover of Jessie J's hit single 'Price Tag'.

Gomez wore a sparkly silver dress throughout her show, despite cool temperatures and strong winds.

'I have a sweater and a jacket but I didn't want to wear it,' she told her fans. 'I'll be cold for you guys because I want to wear this pretty thing.'

Simon Cowell on verge of luring Strictly's Alesha Dixon to replace Cheryl Cole as X Factor judge

By Daily Mail Reporter

Thrilled? Alesha Dixon is said to be excited about the prospect of joining the X Factor judging panel

Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon looks set to replace Cheryl Cole on the panel of the X Factor.

Simon Cowell is tipped to be on the verge of signing the singer to fill to the vacancy left by Cheryl who has been confirmed as a judge on the new US version of the show.

Alesha, 32, is reported to have met X Factor bosses on Wednesday after weeks of talks.

She is said to be thrilled at the prospect of joining the hit ITV show, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The move would prove quite a coup for ITV if they could lure Alesha away from the BBC dance show.

Simon is said to have been agonising over who should replace the Geordie Girls Aloud singer.

Her band mate Sarah Harding, 29, has also been in the frame along with Cheryl's long term rival Lily Allen and N-Dubz singer Tulisa Contostavlos.

Simon is said to have been deliberating over who to choose to join Take That's Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh on the judging panel.

A source told the newspaper: 'He has spent weeks handpicking the right people - he's a perfectionist who changes his mind by the hour.

'There have been heated debates and disagreements almost every day between Cowell, ITV and senior executives over who they need to sign up to give it some stardust.'

America bound: Simon Cowell has confirmed Cheryl Cole will be joining him on the judging panel of the US version of the X Factor

Simon is believed to have decided on Alesha because of her gutsy persona and experience as a solo artist and a member of girl group Mis-Teeq.

She is also close friends with Gary Barlow which Simon thinks would help with the dynamics of the panel.

Dannii Minogue is expected to return to the show which would complete the line up.

'Alesha is ecstatic. She never thought in a million years that she would be asked,' the source told the Sunday Mirror.

'But talks have been on for weeks and have been going well. She has had meeting with producers and realises it’s her dream job – an offer she can’t refuse.

'She’d be sad to turn her back on Strictly, but X Factor is in a completely different league.'

A spokesman for X Factor refused to confirm or deny the appointment and said: ‘The panel for the UK will be announced in due course.'

The BBC controversially chose Alesha to join the Strictly panel in 2009 to replace 67-year-old Arlene Phillips.

She was chosen following her success as a contestant on the show in 2007 when she won the competition with professional dancer Matthew Cutler.

It would be a blow for the corporation if she left, leaving a gap in the judging panel.

Bosses at the ITV show also need to find a replacement for Konnie Huq who presented ITV2's Xtra Factor.

The former Blue Peter presenter was reportedly axed after mixed reviews from viewers - although her management said she had other commitments which clashed with the show.

The 35-year-old made her debut helming the X Factor sister show last year, but failed to match the popularity of previous presenter Holly Willoughby.

Teen four-piece New Bounce melt audience's hearts but divide the judges on Britain's Got Talent

By ANDREA MAGRATH

Big dreams: New Bounce almost have their dreams dashed when their first song goes awry

They swaggered on to the stage with all the confidence of seasoned performers.

But cute four-piece troupe New Bounce came dangerously close to having their dreams dashed during their auditions on tonight's episode of Britain's Got Talent.

The Manchester friends, Mitchell, 16, James, 12, Kuan, 13 and MJ, 12, were introduced to the tune of The Jackson Five's ABC and described themselves as 'brothers from other mothers'.

Second chance: The cute youngsters were stopped, but had more success with their rendition of All My Life

But their ambition to 'be big stars, recording, on tours, number ones' was put in jeopardy when halfway through their audition number, Bruno Mars’ Just The Way You Are, was halted by Amanda Holden.

The judges were shown wincing as the boys' harmonies came across out of tune.

Amanda held up her hand to stop them and asked if they had another song.

New Bounce's second attempt, All My Life by K-C and JoJo, was received with cheers and wild applause by the audience.

Try again: The judges said they were 'frustrated' by the out-of-tune performance but put the boys through

Close bond: The four friends describe themselves as 'brothers from other mothers'

But even though the audience was won over, David Hasselhoff remained unconvinced.

'You, the lead singer, you were singing flat the whole time and the harmonies worked okay…when you came back with the last song, you guys were great.'

Amanda retorted: 'I didn’t think that you were that flat, you worked really, really well together and you can sing.'

Michael McIntyre said: 'I agree with David…I did think when you were singing that first song it was flat, I felt it really was…in the second song it was better.'

Raunch factor: Sexy dance troupe Girls Roc had David Hasselhoff hot under the collar

Too sexy for the Queen? Michael was concerned about their raunchy routine but Amanda and David loved it

The sweet-faced boys were left nervous after Michael told them no, while Amanda put them through.

It was left to David, who decided: 'You gotta work on your stuff, you were flat today…but I’m glad you sang that second son. Yes.'

Other acts who were left on the edge of their seat with indecisive judges were raunchy dance act Girls Roc.

The sexy girls gyrated with snakes and swallowed fire as part of their routine, which they performed in skimpy leotards.

Big moment: The violinist gets her chance to impress the judges on tonight's show

Talent: French dancer Michael stuns the dancers (and his translator, right) with his moves

Moves: David Hasselhoff said Michael was 'the best dancer we've seen on this show'

Moving: Dancer James, who revealed he was home-schooled after suffering autism, had Amanda close to tears with his emotional routine

Another raunchy auditionee is classically-trained musician Alexandra Parker, 22, who wows the judges in her skintight leather as she plays the violin.

The ex-busker from Doncaster struts out onto the stage in round four of the auditions round - and before she's said her name, comedian Michael, 35, jokes: 'You’re through.'

Former Baywatch smoothie David Hasselhoff, 58, - himself a fan of leather trousers - almost seems to lose his cool, and all he can think to say is 'You have a lovely string section.'

Amanda meanwhile attempts to keep the boys in check with some withering looks, and says: 'You are a very good violinist, I'm just trying to keep it real here.'

All over the world: An extremely flexible contestant shows off her skills and received three yes votes from the judges after David said she 'had gone around the world in 80 moves'

Tasty: fine art student Nathan thrilled Michael with his Marmite portrait

Glamorous Alex said afterwards: 'Michael just concentrated on the fact I didn’t have many clothes on and The Hoff just sat there with his mouth open. But Amanda said she needed to know if I could play!'

Unsurprisingly, she gets a standing ovation from David, as well as show hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

Also on the show are an 11-year-old Billy Elliot in the making, autistic ballet dancer James.

Clever canine: Angela and her dog teddy show off their skills on the BGT stage

Full of surprises: Robert Fulford's soprano voice stunned the judges, while Rachel takes a strange approach to musical talent with her loo-roll trumpet

There's also a burlesque dancer, Teddy the dancing dog, a body popper called Michael, 21, and student Nathan, 21, who makes a picture of Michael out of pieces of toast and Marmite.

Other acts include the rather improbable Sailor Pig .

Show four sees Britain’s Got Talent roll into Cardiff, Manchester and Birmingham with judges Michael McIntyre, Amanda Holden and David Hasselhoff.

Britain's Got Talent male judges set to be wowed by sexy violinist in skintight leather

By JODY THOMPSON

Big moment: The violinist gets her chance to impress the judges on tonight's show

She takes to the stage in a sexy skintight leather outfit that leaves little to the imagination - so it's no surprise that this violinist is a hit tonight with Britain's Got Talent judges Michael McIntyre and David Hasselhoff.

Classically-trained musician Alexandra Parker, 22, is such a hit in fact that the lads want to put her through before she's even picked up her bow.

The ex-busker from Doncaster struts out onto the stage in round four of the auditions round - and before she's said her name, comedian Michael, 35, jokes: 'You’re through.'

All white on the night: Alexandra, pictured here in her day job, is Doncaster's first ever licensed busker

Unsurprisingly, she gets a standing ovation from David, as well as show hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

he's not the only bit of raunch on tonight's show either - dance group Girls Roc get the judges hot under the collar with their routine using fire and snakes to Rihanna's Only Girl In The World.

Also on the show are an 11-year-old Billy Elliot in the making, autistic ballet dancer James.

Britain's Got Talent is on ITV1 tonight at 8pm followed by Britain’s Got More Talent, on ITV2 at 9pm.

Welcome to your new life Cheryl! New X Factor USA judge jets out of London

By Sarah Fitzmaurice

Alreet America! Cheryl Cole arrives at Heathrow Airport to board a flight to Los Angeles ahead of her new role on X Factor USA

Just a day after her appointment as a judge on X Factor USA was confirmed, Cheryl Cole has jetted out of London.

Accompanied by her assistants at Heathrow Airport, the singer looked like she couldn't wait to board the 11-hour flight to Los Angeles.

The 27-year-old wore yellow harem pants, towering buckled ankle boots and blue striped T-shirt. She kept her eyes under cover with a pair of aviator shades.

Following months of speculation, Cole was confirmed yesterday as a judge on the new U.S. version of the hit British show alongside Simon Cowell and Antonio 'LA' Reid.

Cole has already voiced her excitement about the new role searching for the talent America has to offer and said she is ready to battle it out against Cowell on the first series.

Cole said: 'I’m so excited to be taking part in the American version of The X Factor. I absolutely love it here in the UK, and with the talent they have out in America, I’m sure we’re going to find someone very special.'

She added: 'I can’t wait to get started. I just can’t decide whether I am more excited to find and nurture the talent or for the unbelievable amount of amusement and entertainment I will have watching Simon doing everything and anything he can to beat me.

'He’s tried to beat me for three years in the UK, and hasn’t even come close. His ego must be so bruised. America is gonna love this.'

I'm in! Cheryy, seen in new promotional stills for the show, is excited to be heading Stateside for the X Factor USA where she will sit next to Simon Cowell and LA Reid on the judging panel

Cowell, who has championed the Geordie singer in the U.S., said: 'I’m thrilled for Cheryl. She is massively excited about this show, and has been fantastic to work with.'

He added: 'She is also a complete brat! Most importantly, this girl can spot talent.'
Yesterday's announcement ends months of speculation over whether Cole's Newcastle accent would prove problematic for viewers across the pond.

Fox bosses have sung the Parachute singer's praises. Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, said: 'She’s an incredibly talented artist and performer, as well as a style icon, and she has that special charisma that draws in fans around the world.

'Cheryl’s charm and chemistry with Simon have been a key part of the overwhelming success of ‘The X Factor’ in the UK, and we can’t wait to welcome her to the U.S. on our air.'

Executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz said: 'As a young artist whose talent show discovery led to almost immediate stardom, Cheryl’s career exemplifies the promise of The X Factor.

Ready for battle: Cheryl can't wait to get the first series of the American version of the X Factor show underway and is looking to beat Simon Cowell as she has in the U.K. show

'Her empathy and passion for identifying and nurturing undiscovered talent has made her a huge hit with British audiences, and I have no doubt America will fall in love with her beauty, her accent and her incredible chemistry with Simon Cowell.'

However, some people have suggested Cheryl's strong Geordie accent will cause problems with U.S. viewers.

After hearing the news today, Piers Morgan offered his help, tweeting: 'Congrats to my friend Cheryl Cole on landing US X Factor judging gig. Am available for elocution lessons whenever you like.'

Cole has proved a skilled judge, winning the UK version of the show twice, first in 2008 with Alexandra Burke and in 2009 with Joe McElderry.

While many were worried about her lack of profile in the U.S. it has also been reported that her song Parachute will be featured on the hit musical show Glee - which has covered hit songs by Rihanna, Madonna and Britney Spears.

Great chemistry: Fox bosses have praised Cheryl's talent as a judge and have said America will love the way she interacts with Simon Cowell

The confirmation about her X Factor role comes only days before auditions are held this Sunday, May 8, in specially-built high-definition recording studios in Honolulu, Phoenix, Nashville, Anchorage, Kansas City and Denver.

Auditions will continue in Dallas on May 26.

The U.S. version of The X Factor is set to be the biggest and best yet with the winner scooping a recording contract worth $5 million.

Belly dancer Jennifer Lopez steals the show with her toned stomach... but it's the end of his American Idol dream for Jacob Lusk

By Daily Mail Reporter

Shaking her stuff: Jennifer Lopez performs her new single On The Floor, dressed in a stomach baring gold fringed outfit

She's there to help find the stars of the future.

But Jennifer Lopez took the opportunity for a bit of self-promotion tonight, revealing her toned stomach in a fringed gold belly dancer outfit as she took to the stage on American Idol.

But while Lopez was having a blast performing her single On The Floor, it wasn't such a good night for Jacob Lusk.

As the contestants were whittled down to a final four, Lusk found himself no longer part of the talent show.

Gold singer: Jennifer revealed her toned stomach in a fringed gold harem trouser outfit as she took to the stage on American Idol

The booming 23-year-old vocalist from Compton, California, was revealed to have received the fewest viewer votes on the Fox talent contest.

A day earlier, he had unsuccessfully attempted both parts of No Air, the duet of Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown, and a tender rendition of Love Hurts, the classic tune made famous by Nazareth and Roy Orbison.

'I got to share a little bit with America, and I think America's fallen in love with me,' said Lusk after his elimination.

'Now I can go and put out that good-feeling R&B music that reminds you of Luther (Vandross) or those great old singers.'

Composed: Jacob Lusk kept his emotions in check as he was sent home from Idol

Bottom two: Lauren Alaina broke down in tears when she learned she could be facing the chop

Lauren Alaina, the soaring 16-year-old songstress of Rossville, Georgia, joined Lusk as one of the bottom two vote-getters.

She broke down on learning that she was in the bottom two, sobbing as she waited to learn her fate.

Despite her position, Alania had impressed the Idol judges with her performances of Carrie Underwood's Flat on the Floor and The Righteous Brothers' Unchained Melody on Wednesday's installment of current and classic tunes.

'Jacob had a rough night last night,' said Idol mentor and Interscope Records chief Jimmy Iovine. 'I think his nerves are getting the best of him.'

Final song: When Lusk performed on stage for one last time, he was joined by his fellow contestants as his family watched from the audience

The final five: Jacob's departure leaves Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Scotty McCreery and Haley Reinhart

Besides Alaina, the other remaining finalists are over-the-top 22-year-old rocker James Durbin deep-voiced 17-year-old country crooner Scotty McCreery, and bluesey 20-year-old singer Haley Reinhart.

The singers will return to the stage next week with another finalist dismissed next Thursday.

The 10th season Idol champion is scheduled to be crowned on the May 26 finale.

Time out: Hell's Kitchen star Gordon Ramsay got the finalists to cook him an omelette

Well done: Steve Tyler, Lopez and Randy Jackson applaud Lusk

Now Doctor Who scares off another one million viewers

By BEN TODD

Creepy: A Silent, one of the new killer aliens on the show

It has been one of the BBC’s success stories of recent years.

As Doctor Who begins its latest series with disappointing viewing figures, however, some fans are asking if the plotlines are too scary and too complex for its largely family audience.

Early figures for the second episode of the new series starring Matt Smith as the Doctor and Karen Gillan as companion Amy Pond show that more than one million viewers turned off the show.

Menaced: Karen Gillan as Amy Pond in episode two of the hit show

It secured 5.39million viewers – down 1.01million on the series opener the week before. Overnight figures for that first episode were down by almost 1.5million on the equivalent episode last year, although ratings released yesterday showed it had a final total audience of 8.86million.

Even so, the apparent downturn in popularity has led to doubts among some avid viewers over the plotlines being pursued by executive producer and main writer Steven Moffat.

Line-up: The cast of Doctor Who from left to right. Alex Kingston as River Song, Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams, Matt Smith as The Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond

Some fans also say the plots have become too complicated and involved, but others say it is important for the show to experiment.

A BBC spokesman said: ‘Doctor Who is a show for all the family. It’s well known for getting viewers hiding behind their sofas and children expect episodes to provide scares and thrills.

‘Doctor Who is never gruesome, cold-blooded or gratuitously violent. All content is carefully considered for a pre-watershed audience.’
