After winter’s dark mood, prints emerged on the spring summer catwalks.

There were hot hues, striking monochrome stripes, florals in every incarnation from delicate buds to exploding blooms, as well as fashion’s newest innovation – techno prints, inspired and influenced by computer generated designs and the continued collision between technology and textile design.

Roberto Cavalli ushered in a new mood in Milan. Delicate chiffons printed with rose buds and spring blooms added femininity and lightness when layered over and under tailoring, knitwear and denim. The news at this show was, this is not the first time we have seen florals on the catwalk but this is the newest way to wear them, updating the perennial summer print for 2010.

Techno Print (Peter Pilotto)
Peter Pilotto are fashion’s hottest new design stars right now. The boys wowed London Fashion week with their accomplished collection of techno prints inspired by natural landscapes – which were showcased in dynamic, sculptural silhouettes like this striking dress. This is the label on everyone’s lips for spring 2010, confirming techno prints as the print to wear now.

Take a deep breath and relax – one of the biggest ideas to emerge from the

international collections had editors on the front row loosening their belts and dropping their sharp sculpted shoulders. Winter’s hard edges gave way to drapey jersey fabrics, rouched and pleated chiffons and forgiving and flattering nips and tucks in all the right places.

If we need to dress up this summer, we want to do it like this. Not least because of clever rouching that was not only on trend but the perfect camouflage for creating a smooth and streamline silhouette.

Shape up this spring in gently structured military jackets

khaki and safari inspired pieces, or with a nautical nod to the navy in chic Breton stripes.
There was also a clear message from the catwalk; there is one key cover-up to invest in for spring – the trench coat.

From a Mad-Max inspired collection that featured micro mini chain mail dresses, drainpipe cargo pants and lots of blingy gold, one wear -anywhere, suit-everyone piece stood out, this army shirt- jacket in summer’s new favourite colour, khaki.
