I'm Back/Emmy Awards 2010

I'm so sorry I haven't been blogging! I have emails from you guys being like, where did you go? My life just got so busy that the posts I did write felt forced and lame. I suck. The good news is that there are good things happening! The up-and-down family stuff is currently swinging up, and I have an awesome internship! It's with Footwear News, a Conde Nast trade publication, and I'm having a blast. They are letting me work on so many projects and I'm learning a ton. Everyone is crazy nice and helpful. It's a great work environment and I'm thankful to be there. I'm working on the legwear issue so stay tuned!

What better way to start blogging again than a Red Carpet?! I'm a bit obsessed with them. Here are my favorite looks. Am I missing anyone that you loved? What do you think of my choices?

Betty White! 88 has never looked so good.

I usually hate white on the red carpet but Rose Bryne looks like a goddess in Gucci.

I LOVE Jayma Mays hair and navy Burberry dress.

January Jones might be the DULLEST person on TV (and on my favorite show) but she is the best dressed person, maybe ever. I'm obsessed with everything about the Versace dress and undone hair.

Best dressed Glee!! This Carolina Herrera dress is beautiful. Lace is so fashion forward.

Tami Taylor, aka Connie Britton, UNFORTUNATELY lost the Emmy but she won in Burberry.

E!'s Fashion Police could not be more wrong picking Anna Paquin as worst dressed. What are they thinking? This McQueen dress is fab and she looks amazing in it. And of course, Vampire Bill looks handsome as ever.

I love The Good Wife and this picture just makes me happy. Go Archie Panjabi!

I'm not a sequin girl but Heather Morris in Ina Soltani is probably my best dressed pick. The black sash makes it perfect! And the hair and make-up: sigh. Love.

Is there anything Zac Posen does that I don't like? Christina Hendricks kills it again. The cut on this is ridiculous. In a good way. I know the sleeves are a little weird but I forgive her for such a perfect fit.

Poor Elizabeth Moss. No matter how fierce her dress is, and this Donna Karen is, her Peggy Olsen hair follows her everywhere.

LOVE this couple and Emily Blunt's Dior dress.

This makes me happy for two reasons: 1. Vintage lace from the Way We Wore. Awesome. 2. Maura Tienry is kicking cancer's ass.

I'm Obsessed: Full Minis

As much as I love a full mini, I feel they are much better suited for Fall/Winter. I can't wait to pair any of these below, with:

1. a white tank, black blazer, tights and sky high platforms

2. fitted tee, long boyfriend cardigan, girly socks, oxfords

Tie-Dye: Do or Don't?

I get on these weird obsessive kicks about things. Like, for example, I wanted dark jeggings and it's all I could see. I went to Zara before work, Forever 21 at 10 PM after work. Must. Find. Them. Sometimes I find the perfect thing, but usually I either settle or the obsession weans. Right now, I'm wanting everything tie-dye.

I can't believe I haven't blogged since Tuesday! My life has been a little upside down. My apologies. If anything can get you in a fashion mood, it's the season premiere of Mad Men. Hot men, fascinating stories, and strong women wearing beautiful clothes draw millions of viewers each week. One of my favorite parts of the show is secretary-turned-copywriter Peggy Olson.

Within the '60s setting, Peggy favors a very modest look though by Season 3 she is wearing decidedly more body conscious outfits.

Hypocrite in a Really Cute Dress

I know American Apparel is about the grossest company ever. They're sleazy, overpriced, and have ridiculous standards. That being said, I still shop there. I KNOW! I suck. And their stuff runs SO small. I just have so many skirts and tees that I love and wear to death. They have a few new items that are must-haves for Fall.

I don't know how great this will look on me, but I'm obsessed with the idea of this jacket over a body-con outfit.

I love bows and am always looking for new ways to wear them.

This will look great with skinny black jeans or leggings. Or how about colored tights?

I LOVE this dress. How cute will it look with black tights, a blazer, and tough boots?

This on-trend maxi skirt makes the trendy crop-top less '90s (and with less skin.)

Don't forget-they also have cute kids stuff!

OMG of the Day: Olsens Do Jeans

MKO and Ashley can pretty much do no wrong in my book. I love their personal style, The Row, Elizabeth and James, and Olsenboye. What I'm NOT thrilled about? Their $400 jeans. COME ON. They better be the most amazing feeling, comfortable, make-me-look-like-a-size-zero, jeans. But I doubt it. Want to try them? You can get them at Barney's. And they're Style.com's Item of the Day. While I appreciate the effort and attempt at something different then the tired jegging, I think I'll pass. If you like the look, try these for $35!

I'm Obsessed/Eh, Not So Great: Dressy Pants

As a self-diagnosed dress addict, I almost never wear pants to an event (or the grocery store for that matter.) Here are two lovely actresses, Brittnay Snow and January Jones, working fancy trousers in Louis Vuitton in LA.

While they both look beautiful, I think Brittnay's look is more successful. Her pants look similar to the H&M ones I have and she is giving me a great idea about how to dress them up. Her one shoulder top makes the pants sexier by showing some skin and I love the way the detailed shoulder and ruched waist draw your eye around. The nude shoes make her look taller than her tiny frame. I like the clutch but a small satchel would have looked just as cute.

Black and navy is one of my favorite color combos. I LOVE high-waisted wide legs. That being said, something is off here. The proportion seems wrong and why can't we see her shoes? The pants are just a hair too long. Maybe it's just a bad picture?

Snow for the win.

Do or Don't: The FitFlip Clog

I can be a tiny bit, ahem, critical of some "fashions." Shearling Ugg boots, flip flops, summer scarves, exposed bra straps, they all make me shudder. In this August's Elle Magazine, FitFlop's new Happy Gogh clogs are featured having just arrived via London. I think regular FitFlops are super ugly but I'm sort of liking these. What do you think? Too orthopedic? I bet they feel amazing on my painful feet. They're being sold at stylish store Kirna Zabete in NYC. I'm going to go try them on. Will let you know if they're comfortable!

Baggy Jeans are Back

I live in Brooklyn, land of boys in the shortest shorts and skinniest jeans (meggings?) I definitely prefer them to baggy jeans but when I saw this picture on The Sartorialist, I developed a whole new appreciation for a looser look. How great does this man look? Of course he's Italian. I wish I could see the bottom of the jeans! Obviously he's wearing them fashion-forward with an Hermes belt, but I could see a New York man wearing these with a button up and jacket. Could you get the man in your life to rock these? (BFF, GBF, brother, dad, boyfriend, husband...)

The Good, the Bad, and the Sticking Around

Trends can be daunting for a lot of people. There's a thin line between fashion forward and fashion victim. My advice? Try using street style pics (or people watch) to borrow from their looks. It's not being a copycat; part of fashion is getting inspiration from other people. I suggest picking one trend you like and incorporating it into your wardrobe to make it your own. If your favorite store is J Crew and you think you could never rock socks with sandals, try a casual shoe with tailored jeans and a preppy blazer. Just because you've seen people wear tiny dresses with the socks/sandals combo, doesn't mean you have to!

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing she got these socks at American Apparel. I think I own them. When I want to tone done the frilliness, I pair them with a chunky, more substantial heel.

Try the denim shirt with dressy black shorts for daytime or to tone down evening wear.

How about a neon yellow skirt? SO chic with khaki!

Flares can be so figure flattering. Keep the top modern with a girly blouse and you'll feel less cowgirl.

Pair your sheer top with a cami instead of just a bra for a less revealing on-trend look.

Monochromatic is one of my favorite trends. It's easy to do with a basic color, like navy. Incorporate a slightly off shade to add dimension.

A polka-dot blouse goes with nearly everything.

Western ankle boots are going to be everywhere. Get a jump start by swapping sandals for boots in a shade of nude instead of black to keep the look summer ready.

Pair stripes with denim and let people think you're French. Keep the stripes thin and therefore figure flattering. Try them instead of a cami under a suit for a small pop of the trend.

Nude outfits still look chic long into fall with the addition of some brown boots.

Florals add a girly touch to an all black ensemble and based on the fall runway they aren't going anywhere.

The one trend I would say, "Don't try at home?" Leather shorts. Here's hoping they leave the fashion world for good-or at least a few seasons.
