Fancy a slice? George ordered the takeaway treat to be sent to the bookies - and told his Facebook friends about it


George Lineker and his father Gary may not have been keen to blame his failure to get into university on his party lifestyle. But he doesn't seem in any hurry to change his ways.

The 19-year-old son of former England footballer Gary Lineker bypassed his usual nightclub jaunts for an evening at the bookies.

But it turned out to be a very long evening - so much so that at one point he ordered a pizza to be delivered to him, and displayed evidence of the takeaway on his Facebook page.

'Cheeky pizza in the bookies!' the teenager wrote on his status update, which prompted a string of comments from his friends.

'George it's not a Dominos!' Kerry Lou B reminded him, while Simon Benjamin Holbrook asked 'Question is, what were you betting on dude?'

Paul Waynesworld Chapman commented that the betting shop was George's "second home" and Lisa Watkins asked 'did ya win', while Holly C added, 'surprise...George and food!' and later said 'did you have another one after that one?'

'Yea,' he joked, 'dinner,' implying he had been there the entire day.

Earlier George posted a photo of himself manning an iPod set up to play music in the betting shop - and attracted further comments from his friends.

'Another night of top banter we had mate,' said Matt Ashby. 'You're the resident DJ now lad!'


'Ha ha no need to play games,' George responded. 'See u for a large one tomoro my man!'

And another friend, Danny Latimer, poked fun at the pose. 'You modelling for argos now Lineker?' he asked.

George is still in London after failing to get into university following disappointing A-level results.

He had planned to read Business at Manchester University but missed out after he did not get the three B grades, or equivalent points, he needed to take up the place.

Both he and his father - who now presents Match Of The Day - blamed George's public school - £25,000 a year Charterhouse in Surrey - for his poor grades.

It is unclear whether or not he is planning to take a gap year before re-sitting his exams. Clearly he doesn't appear to need a job.

He commented on the results on his Facebook page at the time saying 'Didn't get into a uni...cheers, school'.

Even before he took his A 'levels, George had been making a name for himself on the London party circuit.

He has been seen tumbling out of a number of West End clubs, and more recently dated pneumatic Big Brother winner Sophie Reade, 20.

After beating two brain tumours Russell Watson defends his new girlfriend... and says cancer improved his voice

Survivor: Russell Watson considered suicide at his lowest point during cancer treatment but the thought of his family drew him back


Tenor Russell Watson has been invited to sing in the Royal Variety Show, at the London Palladium next month.

For him it is the icing on the cake in a year which is seeing him ­making a triumphant comeback after a long struggle back to good health.

Two devastating brain tumours had threatened to bring an end to a ­successful career which had seen him sell seven million records, win two Classical Brit awards and sing for The Queen, the Pope and President Bush.

Life-saving surgery, weeks of radiotherapy and a long spell of depression left him convinced he might never sing again. At one point he even ­considered suicide.

But the standing ovations he received for his starring role in the new musical Kristina, written by Abba’s Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, at London’s Royal Albert Hall earlier this year, helped restore his confidence.

A lucrative record contract with the Epic label, who are releasing his new album, La Voce, next week, and a nationwide comeback tour set for next year, went the rest of the way to convincing him that he was at last back on the road to the top.

‘It’s been a long, hard struggle’, he says, ‘and I’ve shed a lot of tears along the way. But now I’m filled with new hope.’

We meet in a luxury hotel overlooking London’s Kensington Gardens. He is wearing a well-cut three-piece suit, with silk tie and crisp white shirt and looks every inch the superstar he is — but thought he never would be again.

‘I believe I’ve survived for a reason’, he says. ‘What happened to me was ordained. I don’t know why I was put through so much illness and pain, but I do know that I’ve come out of it a better person.

'I nearly died twice, and that has to shake you up and make you see and feel things in a different way. I feel closer to God and I thank him for giving me another chance’.

When his first brain tumour, the size of two golf balls, was diagnosed in 2006 he kept the news to himself, but on the night before surgery he decided to tell his daughters Rebecca, and Hannah what was happening.

He says: ‘They live with their mother, Helen, from whom I’m divorced, but I see them a lot and here they were, bouncing around, so happy and full of life, yet I was nursing this awful secret.

'It was tough and afterwards I rushed to the bathroom, buried my head in a towel and cried. Then I took a grip on myself — “Right, Watson, let’s get on with it.”’

Fortunately, the tumour was benign, but then a year later a second — more aggressive — growth was discovered.

‘I was convinced I wouldn’t pull through. This one was pressing on my optic nerve and I was warned I could go blind if it got worse. The pain was horrendous and the medication made me aggressive.

'I’d fly off the handle at everything, but poor Rebecca and Hannah took it in their stride. And now I can see it has brought us closer’.

Looking back on how the tumours affected him, he says he took his temper out on quite a few telephones and doors, and once even a boiler. ‘It wouldn’t stop clanking, so I gave it what for. I was a seriously messed up human being — high in the sky one minute, down and dark the next’.

The pain, though, gave him his worst days. ‘I remember standing on a hotel balcony in Los Angeles thinking that the suffering had brought me to rock bottom. My vision was going, but although I could see the sprawling landscape of Hollywood, my head was aching so much that it was making me cry. I was thinking: “I’ve had enough,”

‘For one fleeting moment, I considered ending it all. Then I thought about my kids and my friends, and that stopped me.’

After the operations, a long course of radiotherapy and strong steroids took their toll.

‘I’d put on 2st and I looked like Friar Tuck. Not only was I fat, but I was almost bald because my hair had fallen out in clumps. The turning point came when I was driving home from the hospital after my 25th, and final, radiotherapy treatment. I stopped the car, jumped out and punched the air, shouting: “Yes, it’s all done.”

‘Next day I booked into a gym to lose the weight, went on a strict diet and I’ve never looked back. And, if there’s a bonus, it is that the operations have opened up my nasal cavity and cleared my sinuses, which has had a beneficial effect on my voice.’

It’s not just his career that is back on track for 43-year-old Watson. His private life is more settled, too, for he has fallen in love with 21-year-old office worker Louise Harris, who has moved into his £1.2 million Cheshire mansion.

They met in a smart restaurant called Panacea in Alderley Edge, not far from his home. ‘I saw her across a crowded room and thought she looked incredibly nice.

I’d been single for more than four years. There was my divorce from Helen after 13 years, then I was with Roxanne Valerio for four years, then my illness made me lose faith in myself.’

That night in Panacea changed everything. ‘I took it slowly at first, because I still wasn’t sure I was ready, but the more I got to know Louise the more certain I became.

And she gets on incredibly well with my daughters. Rebecca’s 15 now and Hannah is eight, so at 21 Louise is almost like a big sister to them, and they’ve really bonded.

‘Louise wasn’t a fan when I met her. She knew of my work, but that’s all. But she was never afraid to say what she thinks, and I like that — I like people who are absolutely genuine, and she is.’

He says it’s too early to talk of marriage, but he sees his future with her. What about the age gap though?

‘It feels right. I thought about it and asked myself, who cares? God, after two brain ops, the radiotherapy and all the medication I still take . . .  aren’t I due some happiness?’

His resilience, he believes, comes from his tough background. His father Tim was a welder in a steelworks and his mother, Nola, worked in Woolworth’s.

Both encouraged him to sing from the age of six. Young Watson left school early with no qualifications and got a £29.50 a week job in a factory making nuts and bolts.

In 1990 he was signed by an agent after he won a radio talent contest and gave in his notice at the factory. ‘See you back here next week’, said his boss sarcastically as Watson left.

His career floundered and times were hard. He owed thousands and there were days when all he could afford to eat was beans on toast. But gradually things improved and in 2001 he released his first album, quickly followed by four others before illness halted his career.

The early days of his new-found fame, he says, were not his finest. ‘I was arrogant, a bit of a t****r, and I upset a lot of people. I put it down to immaturity and inexperience.’

He had plenty of time to reflect on his past behaviour while he was ill. ‘I knew it was going to be tough to regain the place I’d had. But I was never frightened of hard work.’

He only began to see light at the end of the tunnel when approached to take the male lead in Kristina, a musical about a family who emigrate to America in the 1850s.

(Abba’s Bjorn and Benny told me they had waited for him to get better before they offered him the part. ‘He is a fantastic tenor — powerful, sensitive and emotional’, said Bjorn. ‘We didn’t audition anyone else because we only wanted him.’)

He sees his new album, on which he sings evergreen Italian songs, as completion of the rebirth process.

‘During the dark days, one of my friends predicted it wouldn’t be long before I would be performing at the Royal Variety Show.

‘So you can imagine how thrilled I was to ring him the other night and tell him I’d just got my invitation!’

Beaming Kate Middleton visits parents... but smiles hide unease at family feud which means relatives won't be invited to Royal wedding

Betraying no sign of the feud that has dogged her family for more than 30 years, Kate Middleton was pictured leaving her parents' home in Bucklebury this morning


An ongoing family feud means that several of Kate Middleton’s relatives will not be invited to the Royal wedding.

News of the bitter rift came as Kate was pictured leaving her parents’ home in Bucklebury, Berkshire today.

Smiling behind the wheel of her Audi, she gave no hint of the turmoil that has surrounded the family since 1978.


The row is said to have erupted after Kate maternal grandfather, builder Ron Goldsmith, fell out with his oldest sister Alice Tomlinson.


Mrs Tomlinson’s husband, Bill, tried to visit Mr Goldsmith but was barred from the house by wife Dorothy, who claimed they were ‘too busy’, the Telegraph reported.

Mr Tomlinson died two weeks later and the Goldsmiths were banned from the funeral after the perceived snub.

A relative, who asked not to be named, said there was ‘no chance’ of several of Carole Middleton’s family members being invited.

‘We’re the rough and tumble side, we’re the workers, the working class. None of us are ashamed of our background, it’s just the way things are.’

The source added: ‘We know we won’t be invited to the wedding, but it’s not Carole’s fault. Her parents fell out with the rest of the family when she was young.’

Betrothed: Prince William will make Kate his wife early next year


Mrs Middleton, a builder’s daughter descended from a family of Durham coal miners, has had little contact with her father’s family since marrying her husband Michael in 1980.

Meanwhile Alice Tomlinson, who is Kate’s oldest surviving relative and will turn 100 in May, is expected to watch her great-niece’s nuptials on TV.

The pair have never met.

Another relative who is perhaps unlikely to receive an invitation to the wedding is Carole’s brother Gary Goldsmith.

The property developer lives on the Spanish party island of Ibiza with a former lap-dancer.

Mr Goldsmith is the proud owner of a £5million villa is called Maison de Bang Bang (which translates as House of Sex).

Last year he fell victim to a Sunday newspaper expose in which he supplied undercover journalists with Class A drugs and introduced them to a pimp.

His first words to Prince William when he visited his villa in 2006 were ‘Oi, you f***er,’ he revealed.

Matt Baker tipped to take over from Jason Manford as One Show presenter

Strictly Come Dancing star Matt Baker has become favourite to take over as The One Show host after Jason Manford quit over his online 'flirting' with fans.

Comic Manford, 29, handed in his notice to BBC1 bosses last night, just four months after taking the coveted position after an admission of "saucy" contacts with women over the internet.

Now Countryfile host Baker - currently a contestant on the dance competition - has been ranked as the bookies' favourite to take over the role.


Manford, whose wife is heavily pregnant, said in a statement: 'I have decided after careful consideration to step down from The One Show to concentrate on my family and tour commitments.'

The BBC said: 'We have got nothing to say except that we accept Jason's decision.'

Corporation bosses were already unhappy about revelations regarding his text messages to a female fan.

Speaking to The Sun, Manford admitted he had "flirted" with 10 or 12 people online and 'went over the line with a few'.

He also said he had talked to girls on Skype - a live online video link - while on tour.

The comic told the newspaper: 'There were 10 or 12 people flirting and then with a few it went over the line.

'We would start off flirty, then innuendo and then a bit saucy. They were moments I thought "I shouldn't be saying that"'.


'I went on Skype with a few girls. They also sent pictures on Twitter. It all happened on tour.

'It was just nice to have some interaction I suppose. But the next morning I would wake up and think 'F*** . Oh my God'.'

The 7pm BBC1 flagship show is not due to be screened tonight because of the Children in Need charity telethon.

His resignation is believed to have immediate effect.

Bookmaker William Hill has placed Baker as evens favourite to take over. However, the former Blue Peter host could be tied up with his Strictly commitments for another month.

He has also signed up to take part in the ballroom contest's live tour which begins in mid-January and continues for four weeks.

Chris Evans - who presents the Friday edition of The One Show - is also hotly fancied, but it would be a heavy burden in addition to his daily Radio 2 breakfast show.

Hill puts Adrian Chiles, who quit the show earlier this year and defected to ITV1, at 14-1 for a return.

Manford said in his interview: 'I don't drink, I don't do drugs, so it's not like I've got those to blame. I have my own stupidity to blame. I've never felt so low.'

Referring to his wife Catherine, he added: 'We have had a serious sit-down about it and agreed that what we've got is worth fighting for. She's fine and we're fine.'

Manford, from Salford in Lancashire, apologised to fans and his family at the beginning of the month after he was accused of exchanging a series of Twitter messages with a female fan.

It was alleged that he shared private messages with Debra McNamee, 22, after she contacted him through the social networking site.

Manford, who married his actress wife in 2007 and has twin one-year-old daughters, took over presenting The One Show from Chiles in July. He is an avid user of Twitter and has more than 200,000 followers. However, he has now vowed to stop using his account.

The comic, who last presented The One Show on Wednesday night, is due to play two sold-out shows at Newcastle City Hall tonight and tomorrow.

Fans have posted comments on his decision to leave the show on Twitter.

Fiona2608 tweeted: 'I know jason manford is in the wrong, majorly. But he always seemed like such a nice guy. Makes it even more sad really.'

And tonyrudak said: 'I suspect he's gone back to doing what he does best. A TV presenter he isn't.'

But attending the launch of the new Michael Jackson: The Experience video game in London last night, the teen singer ditched her high street style for a very expensive Versace dress.

The 19-year-old showed off her figure in a £5,620 purple silk and leather strapless mini, which she teamed with a pair of black high heels.

Following close behind as she arrived at the Whisky Mist bash was her new boyfriend, male model Oliver Cheshire, 22.

While Pixie is yet to confirm their relationship, the couple have been frequently spotted together since August.

As one of the celebrity guests at last night's launch, Pixie went home with the sought-after Jackson game.

Katie Price's ex Dane Bowers arrested over link to 'Mephedrone drug ring'

Celebrity Big Brother star Dane Bowers has been arrested in connection with a suspected Mephedrone drug ring.

The singer, 30, was quizzed by detectives this week after £650,000 of the party drug, often known as 'Meow Meow' , was found in Manchester.

Police have been working undercover investigating a group of cagefighters for the past five months.

Mr Bowers is part of the KnuckleUp promotions team, who organise Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fights across the country.

Officers swooped on several addresses in Manchester after receiving tip-offs that the Class B drug was allegedly being sold at KnuckleUp events.


The DJ, who famously dated Katie Price in the early Noughties, handed himself into police in his hometown of Croydon, Surrey, and was released on bail pending further enquiries.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: 'On Tuesday November 16 officers from Greater Manchester Police arrested seven people on suspicion of conspiring to supply drugs.

'A 30-year-old man from Croydon, a 31-year-old man from Somerset, a 25-year-old woman from Bolton and a 46-year-old man from Staffordshire were bailed until January 11, 2011.'

Asaf Mahmood, 22, of Salford, Mohammed Ikram Kibria, 28, from Rochdale and Shiraz Shah, 28, of Whalley Range, were charged with conspiracy to supply drugs.

Mephedrone was made illegal in April this year, becoming classified as a Class B drug.

Anyone found in possession of mephedrone now faces five years in prison. The maximum sentence for dealing in the drug is 14 years.

Now working in music, as well as with KnuckleUp, Bowers found fame in late Nineties boy band Another Leve, who enjoyed seven top 10 hits.

It's always been her sister Kylie who has been referred to as the 'pint-sized pop princess'.

But tonight it was Dannii Minogue who took that title as she posed with her Project D business partner Tabitha Somerset Webb at the launch of their new fragrance.

The 5ft 2in star was eclipsed by Somerset Webb, who appeared to be a good half foot taller than her 39-year-old colleague.

As well as the clear height difference between the pair, all eyes were on Dannii's revealing black dress - a much more risqué option than the demure outfits she has been sporting on The X Factor.

Danniii wore a plunging black embellished dress which showed off her enviable cleavage as she posed at the launch.

It's been a busy few days for Dannii, who has just returned from a romantic break with boyfriend Kris Smith and baby son Ethan to Monte Carlo.

But there was no sign of any evidence Dannii has been jetsetting around Europe, and the X Factor judge looked fresh-faced and radiant at the launch.

As well as launching the main fragrance, Dannii and Tabitha also posed with the three Project D purse sprays - Dawn, which has notes of ylang ylang, bergamot and gernanium, Day, with mimosa, daisy and tuberose, and Dusk, with notes of sandalwood and hot amber oils.

Talking about the fragrances, Tabitha said: 'While our signature scent captures the spirit and essence of the Project D woman, our purse sprays reflect our vision for fashion and style that takes you from day to night, from revitalising, energising scents of the dawn, right through to the rich and sultry notes of dusk.'

The fragrance is the latest venture from Dannii and Tabitha, who have enjoyed immense success with their fashion label Project D.

As well as Dannii herself wearing a variety of dresses from the line on The X Factor, many other celebrities have been seen donning Project D designs on the red carpet.

And Dannii and Tabitha Somerset-Webb are both well aware of the importance of celebrity endorsement.

‘The very first celebrity picture we saw was of Elizabeth Hurley wearing our zebra print dress,' Tabitha told MailOnline. 'It was such a thrilling fashion landmark moment!'
